Rua Halfeld is considered the main street in the city of Juiz de Fora, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. With cafes, cinemas, galleries and shops.

Along it are located the panel “Cavalinhos”, by Portinari, in the Clube Juiz de Fora Building; Parque Halfeld, with gazebo, playground and centenary trees (which unfortunately could not be filmed at the time due to security measures during the pandemic); the old building of the Paço Municipal, the City Hall and the Cine-Theatro Central. It is divided into upper and lower sections, with the stretch between Rio Branco Avenue and Getúlio Vargas Avenue being exclusively for pedestrians, known as the Calçadão.

In the past, the upper part was called Rua da Câmara, and the lower part, Rua Califórnia. The street is named in honor of the German engineer Heinrich Wilhelm Ferdinand Halfeld, educated at Bergakademie Clausthal, who carried out important infrastructure works in Brazil.

Starting from the beginning of Halfeld Street, the route reveals, in this order:

Architectural ensemble of Praça da Estação, with the old Estação building, which currently houses the headquarters of the Society of Fine Arts Antônio Parreiras, the second of its kind in the country;

Architectural ensemble of the lower part of the street, between Praça da Estação and Avenida Getúlio Vargas, with numerous eclectic and Art Deco buildings, notably the Caixa Econômica Federal building and the Banco do Brasil building (1941), designed by Oscar Niemeyer;

Architectural ensemble of the Calçadão, delimited by Getúlio Vargas and Rio Branco avenues, highlighting the Museu do Crédito Real (the sixth financial museum created in the world), the former Hotel Palace (a pioneer expression of Art Deco in the city), Cinearte Palace, Cine-Theatro Central, Edifício Baependi (the first “skyscraper” in Juiz de Fora), and the Clube Juiz de Fora Building, designed by the renowned architect Francisco Bologna, featuring the “Cavalinhos” panel by Cândido Portinari. This section is also marked by thirteen galleries crossing the street, forming a rare urban configuration;

Parque Halfeld complex, composed of the square renovated by the important landscape architect Rosa Grena Kliass, along with the Municipal Offices and City Council buildings;

Architectural ensemble of the upper part of the street, where the 19th-century Santo Antônio Church stands out, as well as the Academia de Comércio, a traditional school in the city.
